Downloading Morals

what's wrong with illegal downloads?

Many sites that promote the free download of media have lawsuits against them because apparently it’s illegal to share copyrighted material without the owners permission. Sites such as Pirate Bay in which users upload and share their own copies of movies, music, etc. are being sued for millions because they encouraged this to take place.

Why is it considered stealing if the person whom uploaded the movie bought it in a Walmart for 20$ and chose to share on the internet. Yes, the original copyrights are still in affect but isn’t this no different than letting a few close friends borrow the movie for a night and return it in the morning. Music is slightly different but still is the same concept.

The downloader or “thief” in this pays for the price of blank CD’s, the internet usage, and the computer they use to do their evil downloading at and it is still considered stealing.
The real question is not if this is considered stealing or not, the question is: Is it considered morally wrong to illegally download media off the internet. The answer is no if one thinks about it.

Let’s put into perspective! Bruce Willis alone makes over ten million a movie.  Actors and artist work as much as teachers do in a year, if not less. Yet they bank twenty, even thirty times the wages. Their work really is of no difficulty and half of them attended no schooling to become proficient at their careers. Yet teachers spend a good 8 years in school to see a decent pay check.

So who are the real thieves in this rat race? Those who decide they aren’t going to pay twenty dollars for a CD that only took two dollars to make or the business that rapes consumers out of bank, wallet, and even pocket to afford those ridiculous items in life that are not of necessity.

The only problem with your argument against it is that you are leaving out the millions of people that work in the movie and music industries behind the scenes that are more directly affected by the pirating going on. For example the lighting crew, wardrobe,or in the music industry the studio musician. It would be interesting to know exactly how negatively this affects those smaller folks that make a normal living not getting filthy rich. I rated you up and useful Acouasm on this hub for possibly paving the way for another hub here.
